De Stijl

The lecture in history class last 2 days was really interesting and impressive to me, i must compliment. Of course, due to the consideration that some may fall asleep, so i won't type any further about the lecture here. And, adding that i am one who always not easily absorb and digest the lecture as well as in term of reading, i don't think i have the ability to type about the essence of the lecture properly here.
But, one picture that shown by our lecturer, Pn.Nor interested me the most. That is the "Composition with Red, Yellow, and Blue", by Piet Mondrian. Pn. Nor explained to us that this picture shows how it is related to the belief and conviction of arts at the period, what messages was sent by it, how is it about...etc. And, i remembered she said, this picture is very dynamic, don't you think so. Actually by the valuation of the first glance on this picture, i really thought that it was just a picture with nothing much to tell about and not even aesthetic. At that time, I wondered how De Stijl has been a so famous period in term of the influence on arts, architecture and social developement. But, when Pn. Nor kept explaining it, i suddenly agreed with what she told us about. It is really dynamic.

The art piece and the perspective photo

It is common that perspective picture is well known for its dynamism that make people to be able to feel the depth of something. But, the art piece by Piet Mondrian is much more dynamic. Don't you think so? Though the right photo is perspective photo, added with "dynamic" water falling, the left art piece is yet more dynamic. For me, it is dynamic permanently because it is very unstable and 'active' with the arrangement of colors, straight lines with no boundary around the picture, and different proportions of surface divided. While looking at it, once, you feel it is heavier at right, once you feel it is moving left downwards, once,...etc. It keeps moving. Impressive. Brilliant. Pure. Primitive. Free. ...

Information from internet:
Piet Mondrian--Perhaps one of this century's most profound artists, one that has demonstrated a great ability to create. He was an artist austerely devoted to his beliefs and commitments. He is known best for his days with the De Stijl and Neo Plastic movement, but his influence has grown to influence new styles of modernism to this day.

De Stijl (the Style) --An art movement advocating pure abstraction and simplicity -- form reduced to the rectangle and other geometric shapes, and color to the primary colors, along with black and white.
